Andover Talking Newspapers are one of the charities who will share some of the proceeds of the 2016 Andover Carnival on 17th July.
Talking Newspapers serve blind and visually impaired folk in Test Valley by distributing weekly memory sticks containing news from the Andover Advertiser and other local news outlets. Each client has a long-loan sound box which plays the sticks. Obviously supplying and maintaining these boxes and sticks costs money.
Chairman of Andover Talking Newspapers, Michael Shellard, said ”This is a wonderful service given to people in Test Valley solely by volunteers. I hope that our sponsorship by the Andover Carnival will put our name and what we do before a large audience. There are probably families/friends of visually impaired people who haven’t heard of Andover Talking Newspapers. If, after the Carnival, we have a little cash and 20 new clients I shall be extremely pleased”.
